Golf Course Designed By: Tom Clark and Curtis Strange

Golf Course Brief: The Woods is a classic parkland-style golf course and it is in a quiet and secluded corner of the resort. This is the newest of the Kingsmill courses and quite a bit different then its two companions...The River and the Plantation. It is set apart from the main resort center, where the other two courses are located and there are no homes bordering the fairways. The natural setting was preserved wherever possible. The grounds are basically one large flat area, and the balance a series of large peaks, trees and ravines. The front nine is where ravines live with lots of ups and downs...trees are everywhere. The entire course in fact was literarily cut through tall stands of hardwoods and pine. It is not a lengthy course at 6,784 yards from the tips, so Clark and Strange use bunkers, ponds and ravines to define the challenge. There are no gimmicks, tricks or excess. You'll see where you need to put your ball. You have a terrific mix of golf holes -- dogleg lefts, dogleg rights, long and short holes, it's all there. This is a true test of golf, as players will find themselves using every club in the bag while playing the pleasing mix of short and long holes. The signature double green on the 12 and 15th with center bunker is quite unique and a favored topic at the 19th hole. There are a number of historic colonial and civil war archeological sites on property as well. There is incredible history on the course and numerous markers give you a quick history lesson on what happened way back when.
