Golf Course Brief: Once a Colonial era Plantation...The course is named after the landmarks from Richard Kingsmill’s 1736 plantation, a round here is part golf history and part American History as well. The Plantation Course meanders in and out of a peaceful residential area but the houses are well set back from the fairways and tree lines and deep woods help to keep the experience quite separate and peaceful. You have towering trees, rolling terrain, deep ravines, lots of trees, woods and water that comes into play on eight holes to hold your attention. There is enough of a challenge to maintain the interest of all player levels. The Head Golf Professional at Kingsmill, describes the challenge: "The Plantation course, being a Palmer design, means you've got real big, undulating greens. They're forgiving to get to -- but once you get on 'em, that's where the difficulty lies." You'll notice when you look at the yardage figures that the course really isn't all that long, and once you're out there you'll see that it is pretty wide open. It is not a target course so it is less demanding on drive accuracy but it does ask for accurate and consistent iron play and putting that is right on with the undulating greens. The course is certainly no pushover. The Plantation Course is fun, challenging and always meticulously maintained.
