Hotel Review: The Williamsburg Lodge is all about convenience, location, quality and golf. The Lodge tells the story of its Virginia history and the town Rockefeller restored. From its original blue stone floors to the cypress accents and period folk art, and in every cozy nook and spacious expanse it is filled with history. Guest rooms are decorated in a classic Virginia style, with a mix of warm woods and colorful fabrics. Opened in 1939 to provide comfortable accommodations for travelers to the historic town, the Williamsburg Lodge is one of the first Colonial Williamsburg hotels constructed under the guidance of John D. Rockefeller and is affiliated with Historic Hotels of America. It is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places.as part of the Merchants Square and Resort Historic District in Williamsburg, Va.

I’m sure that Mr. Rockefeller...Businessman, Philanthropist and America’s first Billionaire thought about golf as he was restoring this historic area. As Rockefeller’s biographer Ron Chernow explains...this 19th-century mogul was a golf fanatic: “Without it, he was sure he'd die.” Golf was almost a principle of life to Rockefeller. Golf he said is a very balanced game. There's a nice leisurely pace to it, and at the end, there is relaxation. He played it every single day.

Aside from comfort, the history and quality the Lodge is all about convenience to golf. Practically a nine Iron away is the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club with 45 holes of championship golf with no encroaching real estate development. As I am sure Rockefeller would have approved. Here In fact, the Gold, Green, and Spotswood courses are designated as Audubon sanctuaries. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and son Rees Jones, each course is consistently highly rated.

The hotel is adjacent to the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area where some 500 reconstructions and 88 original colonial buildings offer an unmatched historic setting. You are experiencing a living history museum. This 300-year-old neighborhood is alive 24/7, in character, for you to experience.
